HANKOOK // KOREA, SINCE 1941
Hankook Tires in Okotoks
Hankook is the value pick that keeps showing up in the bay: Korea's biggest tire maker, an original-equipment supplier to Ford since 1999, and the tire on more Foothills F-150s than most people realise. Snowflake-rated winters with a real warranty, a proper all-weather, and a full truck range, a tier under the premium names.
Why Hankook for Foothills driving?
Snow grip and price, with one honest caveat about wear.
Two things make Hankook a Foothills brand. The first is the truck range: the Dynapro AT2 is the factory tire on the F-150 in 275/60R20, so half the half-tons in the Okotoks Costco lot are already on one, and the Dynapro HT2, AT2 Xtreme and MT2 cover everything from the Highway 2 commute to the range road. The AT2 Xtreme carries the three-peak mountain snowflake; the standard AT2 carries it in some sizes and not others, which is worth checking before you assume.
The second is winter value. The Winter i*cept iZ3 and iZ3 X are studless, snowflake-rated and, unusually for a winter tire, carry an 80,000 km tread warranty. The Winter i*Pike RS2 and i*Pike X are the stud-ready lines for gravel range roads and glare ice, which is exactly the driving west of town. For the one-set driver, the Weatherflex GT is a snowflake all-weather with 110,000 km of coverage.
The caveat is wear. The old Kinergy 4S2 all-weather wore fast, the LT-sized i*Pike's siping is shallow, and factory Dynapros on trucks draw edge-wear complaints, often from pressures and alignment as much as the tire. Rotate on schedule and keep the pressure at the placard, and the value holds.

Hankook, the short history
Korea's first tire maker, now the tire in Formula E.
Hankook started in 1941 as Korea's first tire company, took the Hankook name in 1968 and built Korea's first radial passenger tire in 1974. It runs plants in Korea, China, Indonesia, Hungary and Clarksville, Tennessee, plus Technoring, a 1.26 million square metre proving ground opened in 2022 that is the largest in Asia. Since 2023 it has been the exclusive tire supplier to the ABB FIA Formula E championship, which is where its EV tire work shows up on the road. Ford has fitted Hankook as original equipment since 1999. In Canada the company operates from Mississauga, Ontario.
What Alberta owners say
Paraphrased from the Calgary and prairie threads, praise and gripes both.
The praise is consistent: strong in snow, quiet for a winter tire, decent on ice, and priced a tier under the Finnish and French names. A Calgary driver on the older i*Pike called them "very good tires in this snow" and good value; a driver in Anchorage, which is our climate with more of it, summed the stud-ready i*Pike up as most of a Nokian for about half the price.
The gripes are about wear and ice. Owners of the old Kinergy 4S2 all-weather said it was good but wore out fast; LT-sized i*Pike owners found the siping shallow once the tread wore; truck owners on factory Dynapros complained of edge wear. On glare ice the consensus puts Hankook a step behind Nokian and Michelin. Our read: for snow and gravel, it is a very good buy; for a driver who wants the last word on ice, spend up.
What Hankook tires cost in Okotoks
A tier under the premium names, with warranties they stand behind.
Hankook sits a clear step below Michelin, Continental and Bridgestone on price and, on snow, not far behind them on performance. The warranties are real: 145,000 km on the Kinergy PT touring tire, 110,000 km on the Weatherflex GT and Dynapro HT2, 97,000 km on the Dynapro AT2, 80,000 km on the iZ3 winters, with road hazard coverage and a 30-day trial on most passenger lines. Are Hankook winter tires good for Okotoks?
Yes, for the price. The Winter i*cept iZ3 is snowflake-rated, strong in snow and carries an 80,000 km warranty, which is rare on a winter tire. On glare ice it sits a step behind the premium names. For gravel range roads and glazed hills, the stud-ready i*Pike RS2 and i*Pike X are the ones to ask for.
Which Hankook tire came on my F-150?
The Dynapro AT2 in 275/60R20 is the factory fitment. Replacing like for like is the easy route; the AT2 Xtreme adds the snowflake in every size and a more aggressive tread for the range roads, and the HT2 is the quieter, longer-wearing choice for a truck that lives on Highway 2.
Does Hankook make an all-weather tire?
The Weatherflex GT: three-peak mountain snowflake rated, built to stay on year-round, with a 110,000 km tread warranty. It replaced the older Kinergy 4S2 that owners liked but wore out quickly.
What warranty do Hankook tires carry in Canada?
It depends on the line: 145,000 km on the Kinergy PT, 110,000 km on the Weatherflex GT and Dynapro HT2, 97,000 km on the Dynapro AT2, 80,000 km on the iZ3 winters, 50,000 km on the iON winter. Most passenger lines add road hazard coverage and a 30-day trial; the iON EV lines a 100-day trial.
