MAINTENANCE // EVEN WEAR

Rotation & Balancing in Okotoks

Rotation moves the wear around so all four tires finish together. Balancing takes the shimmy out of the steering wheel. Together they are the cheapest tire life you can buy.

What's included

ROTATIONFront to back, the right patternTires moved to the position that evens out wear for your drivetrain: front-wheel, rear-wheel, all-wheel and directional tires each have their own pattern.
BALANCINGOn the John BeanEach wheel spun and weighted on our John Bean balancer so it runs true, not just close enough.
TORQUEBy handLug nuts torqued to spec with a wrench, never left to the impact gun.
THE ONCE-OVERTread, pressures, a look roundTread depth on all four, pressures set, and a look at the brakes, steering and suspension while the wheels are off.

Signs you need it

Most of these show up on the highway first. Catch them early and the set lasts.

  • A shimmy in the steering wheel at highway speed.
  • The front tires are wearing faster than the rears, or one edge is going.
  • A vibration you feel in the seat rather than the wheel.
  • It has been 8,000 km or a season since the last rotation.
  • New tires on the front only, and the rears are getting on.

Rotation & Balancing in the Foothills

What thirty-four winters on Railway Street taught us about this job.

Highway kilometres are what make rotation matter here. A Highway 2 commute wears tires evenly but quickly, and any alignment drift from pothole season shows up as a feathered edge on the front pair. Rotating on schedule spreads that wear across four tires instead of two, which is often the difference between replacing a set at 60,000 km and at 80,000. Balancing matters more in winter than people expect: ice packed inside a wheel will throw a balance completely, and a small vibration at minus twenty is usually that, not a bent rim. If a shimmy appears after a snowstorm, knock the ice out first and see if it goes.

FAQ // ROTATION & BALANCING IN OKOTOKS

Straight Answers

Did not find it? Call (403) 938-3110 during shop hours, or ask at the counter.

How much is a rotation and balance in Okotoks?

Quoted up front and priced for all four. Call for the number, or ask when you book. It is less than most people expect and cheaper than a tire replaced early.

How often should I rotate?

Every 8,000 to 10,000 km, or once a season. Most people do it at the changeover, which is the easy way to remember.

How long does it take?

Under an hour. Book it or walk in when the bay is open; we tell you the wait.

Do I need an alignment too?

Not automatically. If the wear is uneven on one edge, or the wheel is off-centre, yes. We tell you what we see rather than selling the alignment blind.

Why Rim2Rim for rotation?

Balanced on the John Bean, torqued by hand, and every tread depth measured and told to you before you leave. Small things, but they are why the set lasts.
