Temperature swing is the reason nitrogen has a case here. Between a chinook afternoon and the next morning the Foothills can move thirty degrees, and every tire on the road moves a few PSI with it. Nitrogen is a larger, drier molecule than the mix in plain air, so it seeps through the rubber more slowly and does not carry water vapour that expands and contracts with the temperature. The result is a tire that drifts less between checks, not one that never needs checking. For a daily commuter it is a convenience. For someone towing to the lake in July or running a work truck all winter, it is one less thing to watch.
