Tire Warranty & Protection
Tire warranties are simpler than the paperwork makes them look, and the parts that catch people out are always the same. Here is what your tires are actually covered for, what nothing covers, and what we do when something goes wrong.
What a tire warranty actually covers
Two different things, and people mix them up constantly.
Every tire sold here carries the manufacturer's warranty, and it has two parts. The first is defects in workmanship and materials, which covers a tire that fails because of how it was built. Every brand runs one, though the length and the terms differ by maker and by line, so ask us what the set you are looking at actually carries.
The second is a tread-life warranty, quoted in kilometres, and only some tires have one. A Michelin Defender2 is rated to 130,000 km and a Hercules Terra Trac Cross-V AW to 105,000. Winter tires usually carry no kilometre rating at all, which is normal and not a defect. Every brand page lists the published figures for the lines we fit.
A tread-life claim is prorated. If a tire rated for 100,000 km wears out at 70,000, the credit is against the tread you did not get, not the price of a new tire. That is how every manufacturer runs it.
What no warranty covers
The list is short and it is the same at every shop.
Road hazard. A nail, a pothole, a curb strike or a cut sidewall is damage, not a defect. Some manufacturers include limited road-hazard coverage on specific lines. We do not sell a protection plan of our own, so what you get is whatever the maker of that tire puts behind it. Ask us before you buy and we will tell you what the line carries.
Damage from neglect. Running underinflated, driving on a flat, chronic overloading, or wear caused by an alignment nobody fixed. A manufacturer will decline a claim on a tire that wore out because the vehicle was out of spec, and they are right to.
Wear on a tire that was not rotated. Most tread-life warranties require documented rotation, usually every 8,000 to 10,000 km. That is the paperwork half of the warranty and it is the half people lose.
Cosmetic and off-road use, racing, and any tire that has been repaired improperly, including a plug fitted from the outside instead of a proper plug and patch from the inside.
What we do about it
The install, the records and the claim.
We stand behind our own work. If a tire we mounted leaks at the bead, a wheel we balanced vibrates, or a weight we fitted comes off, bring it straight back and we will make it right. That is not a program with a name and it is not a form to fill in, it is just the job. Come to us while it is still the job we did, not six months and two shops later.
Keep your invoice and any record of the rotations. That paperwork is what gets a claim approved rather than argued about, and a manufacturer will ask for it.
And we handle the claim itself. You do not phone a head office. Bring the tire in, we measure the remaining tread, document the wear pattern and submit it. If the answer comes back no, we will tell you why in plain terms rather than reading the policy at you.
How to keep a warranty valid
Four habits, none of them expensive.
Check your pressures monthly and after every big temperature swing. Underinflation is the single most common reason a claim gets declined.
Rotate every 8,000 to 10,000 km, or simply at every changeover, and have it recorded.
Fix an alignment problem when the wear pattern shows up, not after the set is finished. Our alignment guide covers what to look for.
Keep the receipt and keep a note of the rotations. Photograph the invoice if paper goes missing in your house the way it does in most.
FAQ // WARRANTY
Straight Answers
Is road hazard included with my tires?
Not automatically, and we do not sell a protection plan of our own. Road hazard is separate from the manufacturer warranty, and what is available depends on the brand and the line. Ask us before you buy and we will tell you exactly what your tire carries.
My tires wore out before the rated kilometres. Now what?
Bring them in. We measure the remaining tread, check the wear pattern for a cause the manufacturer will point at, and submit the claim with whatever rotation history you have. A valid tread-life claim is prorated against the kilometres you did not get.
Do I have to buy the tires from you to make a claim?
The manufacturer warranty follows the tire, not the shop, so it can be claimed anywhere that will process it. We are happy to look at a set we did not sell. Bring whatever paperwork you have, because the claim is a lot smoother with the purchase date and the rotation history in front of us.
Does a repair void the warranty?
A proper repair does not: a puncture in the tread area, plugged and patched from the inside, is an accepted repair. An outside-only plug, or any repair in the shoulder or sidewall, does void it, and we will not do one.
What about the wheels?
Aftermarket wheels carry their own manufacturer warranty against defects and finish, and the terms vary by brand. Curb damage is not covered anywhere. Ask us at the counter when you are choosing a set.
